Solar Energy International (SEI) Receives Approval for Veterans Education Funding

SEI is now authorized to offer eligible veterans the ability to use their education benefits towards our in-person classroom and hands-on lab training through SEI’s Solar Professionals Certificate Program (SPCP).
Visit www.solarenergy.org for more information or call 970-527-7657 x1 to speak to a SEI Student Services Team Member.
This education funding approval is part of SEI’s broader expansion of their Active Duty Military and Veterans Outreach Program. As an organization, SEI believes in the opportunities that renewable energy can afford our country, such as energy independence and sustainable use of our country’s natural resources. With that in mind, we also honor those who have served our country and who are choosing to follow up their military service with a new kind of service; service in the renewable energy sector.
Eligibility Requirements
Many benefits are available to advance the education and skills of Veterans. Some might find they’re eligible for more than one benefit or that one program is more suited to certain education and training goals than another.
Learn about these and other education and training programs administered by the VA or start your VA Education Benefits application now:
Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) – Chapter 30
Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) – Chapter 32
Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) – Chapter 35
Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) – Chapter 1606
Reserves Educational Assistance Program (REAP) – Chapter 1607
Post-9/11 GI Bill – Chapter 33
In order to use the various federal educational program funding, veterans must verify their Education Benefits eligibility through the various federal recognized programs by contacting their VA Education Counselor. When you first speak with your SEI Veterans Counselor to enroll in your courses, make sure to indicate that you have verified your eligibility.
All interested veterans will also need to apply for SEI Solar Professionals Certificate Program acceptance and meet our selection criteria to help ensure their successful program completion. Be sure to click that you are a veteran or active duty military member when filling out the SEI Solar Professionals Certificate Program Application.
The two SPCP tracks that are eligible for this funding are the Residential and Commercial Photovoltaic Systems Certificate and / or the Battery-based Photovoltaic Systems Certificate. Please remember: all training must be completed in-person at our Colorado training facility to be able to use your Veterans Educational Benefits.
In addition to this program expansion, SEI was selected last year as the lead training provider during the pilot program for the Department of Energy’s Sunshot Initiative Solar Ready Vets program. SEI continues to support Solar Ready Vets as an advising and training partner to the program.

AEG Power Solutions is showcasing its solutions for battery energy storage at the Hannover Fair

AEG Power Solutions, a global provider of power electronic systems and solutions for industrial power supplies and renewable energy applications, today announced that it is exhibiting at the Hannover Fair in Germany, from April 25th to 29th. At Booth C75 in Hall 27, AEG Power Solutions (AEG PS), will be demonstrating its comprehensive project solutions and single components for state-of-the-art power supply systems, such as converters for battery energy storage or power-to-gas applications.
AEG PS has many decades of experience in the world of UPS, power electronics, batteries as well as international grid connection compliance. This unique combination of know-how has been leveraged to design products and solutions for energy storage. The modular concept of AEG PS’ portfolio allows to tailor solutions in terms of available battery capacity as well as converter power. Thanks to a wide range of DC input voltages available, the most suitable battery technology can be selected for each specific application depending on environmental and cost parameters.
“In addition to the high reliability, explains Andreas Becker, Product Manager, AEG Power Solutions, our systems benefit from having all necessary grid compliance certifications. Therefore any field of application, On-Grid and Off-Grid, can be realized all over the world.” As renewable installations such as photovoltaics (PV), combined heat and power (CHP) and wind turbines grow, and as the ideas of decentralized micro-grids develop, the need for energy storage becomes patent to balance power fluctuations. AEG PS has launched a new website to present the various solutions and benefits that battery energy storage can provide and to satisfy these emerging needs.

EDF Renewable Energy Completes Construction of the Solar Carport Installation at Buck Institute for Research on Aging

EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE), MCE, and the Buck Institute for Research on Aging celebrated today the completion of construction on the 1.11 MWp/1 MWac solar carport installation. Local representatives and company officials assembled with members of the community and staff of the Buck Institute for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize this achievement.
The solar carport, located on a 4-acre upper parking lot at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, is the largest solar PV facility in Marin County. The energy generated is delivered directly to MCE’s customers, including the Buck Institute, under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
This carport project is part of the larger 32.6 MWp/24 MWac Cottonwood Solar contract signed between EDF Renewable Energy and MCE in 2011 and later acquired by Dominion. The Cottonwood Solar portfolio consists of three sites, two of which are ground-mount facilities located on private land in the central California counties of Kern and Kings that became operational in April 2015.
Ryan Pfaff, Executive Vice President for Development at EDF Renewable Energy, offered his comments during the ceremony stating, “Over the past decade or so, and within the past several years in particular, we have witnessed the coming of age of solar as an affordable, reliable source of energy for consumers, commercial and industrial customers, and utilities. We are proud to partner with MCE and the Buck Institute to develop solar installations that offer consumers the option to go green.”
Also participating was MCE CEO Dawn Weisz: “At MCE, our mission is to address climate change by reducing energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. We’re thrilled to be flipping the switch on the Buck solar project. It’s a perfect example of our shared community values in action – new renewables leading to more jobs and priceless environmental benefits. It’s been a great partnership between the Buck Institute, EDF RE, and Cupertino Electric.”
Brian Kennedy, PhD, Buck Institute president and CEO, commented, “We are extremely excited and grateful to be part of this project. It’s also great that the Buck gets to be part of the solution when it comes to dealing with climate change and the need to reduce energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.”
Local jobs during the six-month construction phase were created through Cupertino Electric and the local IBEW. The solar canopy further serves a dual purpose to provide protection to 252 employees’ and visitors’ vehicles to the Buck, demonstrating solar PV’s ability for efficient land use.
EDF Renewable Energy is one of the largest renewable energy developers in North America with 8 gigawatts of wind, solar, biomass, and biogas projects developed throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
