Vikram Solar opens new office in South African city of Johannesburg

The solar company Vikram Solar has opened its third African office in Johannesburg. The new office complements Vikram Solar’s existing branches in Kenya and Uganda, and is aiming to increase the company’s market presence and proximity to its customers throughout Africa. South Africa is currently the continent’s largest photovoltaics market. The country’s installed capacity is expected to rise to 8.5 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, which, according to estimates by Vikram Solar, will require investments exceeding 20 billion US dollars.

Georgia Power receives approval for Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany solar project

Georgia Power announced today a new, on-base 46 megawatt (MW) AC solar facility planned at the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Albany. The project was approved Tuesday by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) and will be the fifth large-scale solar project to be developed by Georgia Power in coordination with the military. The company is currently working under a memorandum of understanding with the Department of the Navy (DON) to finalize project details.
