To align to the customersÂ’ wishes Solarif decided to expand and improve the coverage of the Solar PV Insurance. PV installers will have the possibility to include the Solar PV Insurance into their service and maintenance contract, thus expanding the services to their customers and offer certainty and quality. The Solar PV Insurance is an All Risk cover for private and commercial photovoltaic installations.
The insurance compensates damage caused by external causes such as fire, hail damage, lightning strike, overvoltage, vandalism or theft. Policyholders are also insured against loss of production. PV installers are offered the possibility to include the insurance in their service and maintenance contract to the customers and with that, can offer their clients a complete package of cleaning, maintenance, monitoring and insurance for their PV installation.
Most important changes and improvements to the Solar PV Insurance With the new policy terms and conditions the cover of the insurance has extended. In The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany damage caused by external causes such as an earthquake, flood and windstorms with wind speeds above 119 kilometres per hour are covered.
For all countries, Solarif has raised the daily rate of compensation in case of production loss. Also a number of extended covers have been added. For example:
- The extra expenses to compensate for an incompatibility caused by unavoidable technical difference between existing and replaced equipment;
- The costs of removing and repositioning the photovoltaic installation, in case a repair to a damaged building or structure cannot be carried out due to the position of the installation;
- The costs of transporting the damaged solar panels to the nearest PV-Cycle collection point.
Inherent defect / warranty
Besides the abovementioned All Risk cover it is possible to include an Inherent Defect / Warranty in the insurance package. For an extra premium the installer can (with exclusion of any damage that is recoverable under the terms of any given warranty extended by the supplier, manufacturer or any other party) insure:
- Damage caused by an inherent defect to inverters (up to 7,5 years after the first commissioning) and solar panels (up to 20 years after the first commissioning);
- Damage or loss of solar panels or inverters caused by an inherent defect during above mentioned periods in case a warranty claim is being rejected or if liability is being disputed complete or partially by a manufacturer or supplier or in case a manufacturer or supplier has failed to fulfil its warranty obligations due to insolvency;
- Loss of production due to damage as result of an inherent defect, up to a maximum period of 26 weeks;
- In the event of a valid claim, labour costs and associated call out charges are also insured.
The option for Inherent Defect / Warranty is valid only when the solar panels and inverters used are approved by Solar Insurance by means of a factory audit.
