With the current power shortages due to the political instability and rising fuel costs, solar energy has become a game-changer for Sudan’s agricultural sector. Solar powered irrigation systems are now enabling farmers to cultivate land efficiently, reduce operational expenses, and adapt to water scarcity. By switching to Solar Energy and Solar Pumping, farmers and communities are regaining control over their livelihoods and fostering resilience amid uncertainty.
LONGi and Empower Leading the Way
Empower, a trusted distributor of LONGi, is spearheading the clean energy transition in Sudan. Collaborating with the UNDP, Empower has implemented impactful solar projects such as the following:
Shendi & Al-Matammah Project
· 459 kWp solar installation (1,009 LONGi panels) powering 68 solar pumps.
· Replacing diesel with clean energy for 3 to 7.5 HP pumps, minimizing costs and emissions.
· Strengthening food security and rural development.
Wad Madani Solar Pumps
· 28 solar pumps bringing water and hope to Al Gezira agricultural projects farms
· Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on clean water, energy, and climate action.
