The project completion event was attended by Rutger De Reu, Mayor of Deinze; Jan Vermeulen, First Alderman of Deinze; Sun Wei, Senior Vice President of Sunwoda; Terry Yuan, General Manager of Sunwoda Overseas Energy Storage Business; Dany Bosteels, CEO of EcoSourcen; Floris Bosteels, CTO of EcoSourcen; and Raf Bellers, Chief Asset & Supply at Fluvius.

A 10MW/55MWh Energy Storage Deployment for Grid Flexibility

As renewable energy penetration increases across Belgium, distribution-level grid congestion has become a key constraint. The Deinze project addresses this through a system configuration comprising 11 units of Sunwoda’s 5MWh liquid cooling energy storage systems, enabling up to five hours of continuous charge and discharge per cycle.

This allows excess renewable energy to be stored and discharged during periods of higher demand, supporting load shifting and improving overall system efficiency.

Developed by EcoSourcen with financing from Patronale Life, the project supports grid flexibility while serving as a scalable model for distribution-level energy storage deployment across the region.

Partnership and Local Execution

“This project highlights the role of energy storage in enabling the energy transition at the distribution level,” said Dany Bosteels, CEO of EcoSourcen. “By combining our project development and grid integration expertise with Sunwoda’s battery and system technology, we are helping to build a more flexible and resilient energy system to support the evolving needs of distribution grids.”

The project reflects the combined strengths of Sunwoda’s battery and system capabilities and EcoSourcen’s expertise in project development and grid integration. Close collaboration between the two teams ensured alignment with local grid requirements and supported efficient project delivery.

Commitment to the European Market

From design through delivery, the project was executed in alignment with local grid codes and operational requirements, reflecting Sunwoda’s capabilities in localized deployment and regulatory compliance across European markets.

“The completion of the project reinforces our long-term commitment to the European market,” said Terry Yuan, General Manager of Sunwoda Overseas ESS. “We will continue to strengthen our local presence, with a focus on service and technical capabilities, to support our customers throughout project delivery.”
