Wirsol powered by Power-One inverters for 16 MW PV power plant in Grafenwoehr, Germany

Wirsol, an international project developer specialized on solar power plants, started construction works for this project at the beginning of March. The solar park is currently being built on a former gravel quarry and will be one of the biggest commercial installations in Bavaria. After its completion in June, the project will supply the grid with approximately 15,200 MWh of clean energy per year for more than 3,600 families in the Upper Palatinate region.

More than 65,000 modules and 44 of Power-One’s Aurora PVI-330.0-TL central inverters will be deployed on the 36 hectare construction site. These extremely scalable modular inverter systems, based on 55kW conversion modules, proved the ideal solution for Wirsol as they increase the usable power and optimize energy harvesting across a wide array of operating conditions. Due to the modular design approach even a performance reduction in any individual inverter will not impact the energy-harvesting capabilities of the other modules. Furthermore, Power-One’s string combiner Aurora PVI-STRINGCOMB will ensure the same control and monitoring accuracy of the PV generator as is typically achieved by string inverters.

“The project is a best practice on how local communities can employ disused conversion areas to secure the energy supply of a region from renewable sources”, said Dennis Seiberth, Head of International Project Development at Wirsol. “To guarantee a maximum uptime of the new solar power park, we decided to use Power-One’s reliable inverters. The modularity of the inverter system, the excellent power conversion efficiencies and the multiple MPPT technology were additional criteria for our decision.”

“Wirsol is one of our long-standing partners and has profound knowledge in the planning and realization of large commercial power plants”, said Michael Hipp, Key Account Manager at Power-One. “We are very proud that Wirsol has chosen us for this project and we are looking forward to working together with their experienced team again.”
