Akuo to deploy 200 MWh of battery storage in New Caledonia

Akuo plans to deploy 200 MWh of battery storage in New Caledonia, supplying 50 MW for three hours per day over 12 years. The facility will primarily support the operation of nickel mines.

The 16-greenhouse Focola project has been developed by French renewables developer Akuo and local utility company Enercal Energies Nouvelles on the Pacific Ocean territory.

The Wi Hâche Ouatom project is the first of its kind in the southwest Pacific French overseas territory. The facility is 51% owned by Enercal Energies Nouvelles and 49% by Promosud, both of which are based in the archipelago.
