Despite recent efforts to boost its solar energy business, the Italian oil giant has decided not to acquire RTR’s 343 MW solar plant portfolio.
The Italian oil group is building a 26 MW plant at its industrial site, Assemini, on the island of Sardinia. The system is part of a 220 MW solar project pipeline that Eni aims to install at its Italian sites between 2018-2021.
The Italian oil giant has already identified 25 sites where the solar plants could be located. The projects are part of the company’s €7 billion investment plan in Italy.
The Italian oil and gas provider is also assessing the feasibility of floating PV projects in in the Volta basin.
Italian oil producer Eni and Sonatrach — an Algerian state-owned company that specializes in the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources — have broken ground on a 10 MW solar facility in southern Algeria.
