Simplifying BESS operations: Turning fragmented data into actionable insights

Utility-scale battery operators often struggle with fragmented monitoring systems and scattered data sources, complicating efforts to maintain optimal performance efficiently. In this pv magazine Webinar, experts from Twaice and Fullmark Energy discuss how unified insights and data-driven workflows are changing BESS operations. Twaice will outline a technical approach to simplifying performance monitoring, while Fullmark Energy shares their real-world insights from more timely decision-making and preventative maintenance across their portfolio.

Presentation

Utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) owners and operators face a persistent operational challenge: fragmented visibility into system performance across multiple monitoring tools. Managing large-scale battery systems typically requires navigating multiple dashboards and data streams, requiring teams to reconcile large volumes of information manually for actionable insights.

This fragmentation creates inefficiencies as teams work to consolidate information and identify meaningful patterns within thousands of real-time data points. As a result, teams operate in a reactive mode, spending significant time troubleshooting issues after they occur rather than anticipating and preventing them.

The challenge extends beyond mere inconvenience. When data is siloed, operators may miss early warning signs of degradation or performance issues, potentially impacting system reliability and revenue. Additionally, the complexity of interpreting disparate data sources requires specialized technical expertise that not every operations and management (O&M) team may have at hand.

Moving toward a more proactive operational approach

To move from reactive to proactive asset management, operators need an approach that reduces complexity and make insights easier to access and act upon.

Recent advances in software are doing just that. Developed in close collaboration with leading asset operators, Twaice’s workflow solutions consolidate system data into unified, hierarchical views. During this pv magazine Webinar, Robin Lorenz, lead PM workflow solutions at Twaice, will demonstrate how tools like the BESS Hierarchy Diagram and live KPI monitoring can be integrated with existing analytical capabilities for more streamlined operations.

Joining the discussion will be Nick Peri, vice president of asset management and operations, and Chris Swanson, director of performance engineering at Fullmark Energy, a utility-scale BESS developer and independent power producer with operating battery storage projects across the United States. They will share their operational experience implementing these tools and discuss how unified data visibility has affected their daily workflows and decision-making processes.

pv magazine Webinar content:

  • Visibility at-a-glance – How a live BESS overview helps asset managers and engineers cut through complexity.
  • Work smarter, not harder – Simplify daily operations using interactive views, live KPIs, and alerts.
  • Reducing downtime through data – How analytics can help O&M teams stay focused and efficient by knowing when precisely balancing is needed.
  • Customer perspective from the field – Lessons from Fullmark Energy’s experience in simplifying BESS operations and improving decision-making.
  • Live Q&A

Questions can be submitted beforehand in the comments window when registering or in the chat during the webinar. Tristan Rayner, editor at pv magazine, will be the moderator of this webinar.

Registration for this pv magazine Webinar is free of charge.
