The Environmental Impact Report was granted on January 7, 30 days after the county Board of Supervisors unanimously rejected an appeal from an earlier decision of the Los Angeles Regional Planning Commission approving the Conditional Use Permit and related Environmental Impact Report for the project.
Parties had 30 days from the Board of Supervisors action within which to initiate a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court challenging the Board's decision, pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act. However, no legal actions were filed.
In total, up to 400 workers are expected to be employed on the project, which is located in the Antelope Valley, Los Angeles County, the U.S. It is hoped that when fully operational, the ranch will generate enough solar energy annually for around 75,000 average homes.
NextLight Renewable Power originally developed the project, before First Solar took the company over last July.
