Bosch Rexroth confirms Desertec exit13. November 2012 | Industry & Suppliers, Markets & Trends | By: Sandra Enkhardt
Bosch Rexroth has confirmed it will let its Desertec Industrial Initiative (Dii) membership expire at the end of the year. Following Siemens’ exit, Bosch is the second company to withdraw from the initiative.
"It is true that Bosch Rexroth has decided, as part of its annual activity plans, not to renew its Desertec membership beyond the end of this year," a spokesperson for the company confirmed to pv magazine.
They declined to provide any reasons for the departure, and only referred to the fact that Bosch Rexroth develops elevation and tracking systems for photovoltaic plants, and offers production automation solutions. Bosch Rexroth has been an associated partner with Dii since the initiative’s establishment in 2009.
The news follows the departure from Dii by Siemens AG, which also announced that it will not renew its contract at the end of this year. The company was a shareholder of Dii.
Dii has confirmed the withdrawal, but it still confident that the number of associate partners will rise by the end of the year, according to the Financial Times Deutschland.
Rumors are currently circulating that U.S. thin film company First Solar and the State Grid Corporation of China are looking to join. First Solar declined to comment on the news.
