Enerray, a subsidiary of the Italian Maccaferri Industrial Group, and Desert Technologies, a Saudi Arabian solar developer, have completed a 10 MW Shamsuna project in Aqaba, Jordan. Comprised of 40,320 solar PV panels, the new plant will be connected to the National Electrical Power Company (NEPCO) grid under a 20-year PPA. Produced power will be sold at the rate of $0.169 per kWh.
Shamsuna project is part of a government program by the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR). The plant is expected to generate about 20 GWh and save approximately 10,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
CEO of Desert Technologies Nour Mousa describes the new solar facility in Jordan as an important milestone, the first in the companys more than-200 MW portfolio of projects set to be completed over the next 12 months. He added that the company is targeting 1 GW over the next five years.
As the new PV plant in Aqaba commences operation, Enerray and Desert Technologies have begun work on the next joint solar project a 23 MW PV park in Maan, Jordan. This park, once completed, will be also connected to the NEPCO grid, with the generated electricity sold under the same price of $0.169 per kWh.
JinkoSolar is set to supply 73,320 PV modules for the solar park. The conversion system will be comprised by 12 SMA MV compact stations and equipped with 2 SMA compact inverters.
This project demonstrates once again that PV represent the simplest, the most sustainable and the most affordable energy source for developing countries as well, said SMA Regional Manager Valerio Natalizia.
The solar plant in Maan is estimated to produce 47 GWh and save 25,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
