In the current crisis, the market leader is counting on further internationalization and differentiation of the market, while at the same time underscoring its commitment to Germany as a place to do business.
With German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Norbert Röttgen, in attendance, many of the most well-known participants in the industry met yesterday in Niestetal near Kassel, where SMA celebrated its 30 years in the businessin addition to opening the inverter service center.
The company will combine its service activities in the approximately 24,000 square meter building starting in spring 2012, in order to further enhance its services to customers worldwide.
Company spokesman, Pierre Pascal Urban announced the companys intention to continue to push the internationalization of its business. Today SMA is already represented in 19 countries on different four continents. "Nevertheless, we will not relocate jobs to low wage countries," assured Urban.
SMA manufactures in Niestetal and Kassel, and has a workforce of some 6,000 employees. This year, the company expects to obtain more than 50 percent of its sales abroad. For Germany, Urban anticipates new installations as in the past year "with an increase in demand".
In his welcoming address, Minister Röttgen stressed the economic opportunities offered by the change in energy policy and the development of photovoltaic technology. "If an industrialized country like Germany manages to switch to renewable energies, then this will send a message worldwide," he said.
