India's first low iron glass gets underway to serve crystalline PV module market

Supplying glass to the PV market in India and globally, it is only factory of its kind in the country to provide low iron glass. The plant operates right from sand to the finished glass, which features an anti-reflective coating. It has a melting capacity of 130 metric tons per day, which can provide enough glass for 750 megawatts of crystalline PV modules.

The turnover expected is INR 1.5 billion annually (around USD$32 million; €24.6 million). GBL has received all the necessary certifications of European and U.S. standards. Mr. Shreevar Kheruka vice president of the company claims they already have orders in hand that will absorb its current capacity and with the National Solar Mission in place as well as the growing demand in Europe and U.S. another line is planned by the end of the year.
