Lithuanian university develops new generation organic semi-conductors

Share

The solar cells using KTU's organic semi-conductors were constructed and tested by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. The results show that the cells have an efficiency of 16.9%. Few organic semi-conductors worldwide have such an efficiency rate.

The KTU semi-conductors have similar characteristics to the current known alternatives however the material created by the Organic Chemistry laboratories of KTU is said to be "considerably cheaper" according to Professor Vytautas Getautis, head of the chemistry research group. The process of the material's synthesis is also less complicated than that of the currently used analogue material.
