Tokyo-based financial services company Orix Corp has completed a 51 MW solar power plant in Tsu City, Japan.

Toenec Corp, which provided engineering and construction services on the project, built the solar farm on more than 1.1 million square meters of land (about 25 times the size of the 42,000-seat Tokyo Dome stadium) on the site of a former golf course and is the largest-scale solar power plant in Mie Prefecture, according to a report by the Nikkei Business Publications website Solar Power Plant Business, which cites Orix.

The aptly named Orix 51M Tsu Mega Solar Power Plant is equipped with 204,120 Toshiba solar panels as well as inverters supplied by Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC).

The plant has a total capacity of 51.03 MW and is expected to generate some 57.8 million kWh of electricity in its first year — equivalent to the amount consumed by 16,060 households.

The Orix 51M Tsu Mega Solar Power Plant is Orix's third mega solar plant that has started operations in Mie Prefecture.
