The new fuse systems can provide plants with reliable protection in the vents of faulty modules or a short circuit. According to the company, the NH fuse systems available in sizes one to 2L can be used to protect modules or as compound fuses upstream of the inverter.
The new international standard IEC 60269-6 lays down specific requirements for fuses used in photovoltaic plants. Accordingly, fuse links from Siemens have a high DC rated voltage of 1000V, rated currents of up to 630 A and a gPV operational class that is designed for the protection of photovoltaic modules and their connecting cables.
In the event of residual currents, they guarantee safe disconnection and thus reduce the risk of fire from DC arcs, as Siemens states. Maximum touch protection is ensured too: touch-protected fuse bases with swivel unit permit protective separation with the fuse base open and safe replacement of the fuses with no need for any special fuse handle, says Siemens.
