China: Qinghai targets additional 7.1 GW of renewables in 2016

Qinghai Electric Power, the sub-company of China’s State Grid Corporation aims to install 7.1 GW of renewable energy in 2016, the majority of which will comprise solar PV, up from the province’s cumulative capacity of 6 GW.

India to install 4.2 GW of rooftop solar under increased budget

The Indian Government has unveiled plans to install 4.2 GW of grid connected solar PV up until 2019-20 under its National Solar Mission. A budget of around US$751 million has been allocated. It is still unclear how its 40 GW 2020 rooftop target will be met, however.

CERC: Benchmark solar capital cost in India falls 28%

India’s central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) calculates the capital cost for solar PV has dropped 28% from the benchmark numbers over the last two years. Meanwhile, an initial tariff of INR 7.01/kWh has been set. The final figures are to be confirmed this March 31.

Taiwan ups solar FITs, sets 500 MW 2016 target

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has released new tariffs for solar PV. To boost activity in the region, a 12.5% increase in tariffs has been set for installations in the northern part of the country, and in Miaoli County. Other installations will see tariffs rise 5.6%. Overall, 500 MW are being targeted next year, while cumulative capacity should reach 8.7 GW by 2030.
