First Solar has agreed to supply 241 MW (DC) of its thin-film PV modules to Sydney-based EPC contractor RCR Tomlinson for Edify Energy’s 180.7 MW Daydream and 60.2 MW Hayman solar projects in the Australian state of Queensland.
Having closed an exclusive partnership agreement with Arevo Enerji Sanayi Ve Ticaret AS to distribute its modules for solar projects in Turkey, Spanish PV manufacturer Tamesol has managed to get a grip on the Turkish market, known for its strict limits on imports of solar modules.
The funds will be used by the public bank Bancoldex to support unspeficied projects that help mitigate climate change impacts.
The Middle Eastern country has so far mainly supported large-scale projects. The new rules, which will apply to projects not exceeding 1 MW, will come into force in mid-2018.
The new rules will apply to large-scale projects as well as to residential and commercial PV.
The regulated tariff, which was previously granted only to small and medium hydro- power plants, was extended to PV up to 2 MW and wind projects not exceeding 3 MW in size.
The exemption will relate to purchasing, manufacturing and importing of components to build renewable energy power projects.
Solar, however, was excluded from a second energy auction planned for December, which will select wind, biomass, hydro, coal and natural gas-fired combined cycle plants. The Brazilian association ABSOLAR has urged the government to include PV in this auction too.
Approximately 4,800 MW of solar capacity has been commissioned in India in the first six months of the year, surpassing last year’s 4,038 MW total, finds new data from Mercom Capital Group. GST uncertainty could slow growth in 2018, however.
The country’s cumulative installed PV capacity has now surpassed 700 MW, while total renewable energy generation has reached 1.46 GW.
