The aim of the ITRPV publications is to inform suppliers and customers in the PV sector about the expected technology developments and to set a basis to intensify the dialog about required improvements and standards. ITRPV has managed to establish itself in recent years as the central technological guidance for the efficient production of crystalline photovoltaics.
The cost reduction measures, innovation in production processes and the transition to higher performance cell concepts will boost the industry's competitiveness. This is exactly the direction VDMA seeks to bring the ITRPV. VDMA has been supporting SEMI in roadmapping activities for several years now. Florian Wessendorf, Managing Director of VDMA Photovoltaic Equipment stated that VDMA is convinced that it can contribute positively to ITRPV.
Both organizations have successfully cooperated on projects like "total cost of ownership" calculations in 2013, and also released the "Global PV Manufacturing Equipment Book-to-Bill" report together. Semi Europe's Stephan Raithel believes that SEMI has found the right association who will carry on ITRPV's development professionally. "We are confident that the initiative launched makes sense and the PV industry needs an independent technology roadmap," he added.
Around 100 VDMA members are involved in the PV sector and the German Engineering Federation VDMA represents more than 3,100 companies.
