Badriyah Abdul Malek, undersecretary of the sustainable energy division in the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water has stated that the FiT mechanisms can be expected to be implemented by June next year in Malaysia. Badriyah stated in a press statement, "The bill is now completed and submitted to the Attorney-General. So we expect the bill to be tabled for first reading between the October and December session this year. We expect the second and third reading in March, and the Act enforced probably in May or June next year, so the FiT will also come on board in May or June 2011."

Chief technical advisor to the Ministry, Ahmad Hadri Haris told pv magazine that Malaysians are ready for the switch to embrace solar energy. He also stated, "The capital investments are high, so continued support is needed from the government until grid parity is achieved." Under the scheme thus far, Malaysia is considering a tariff rate of Ringgit Malaysia (RM) 1.25 to 1.75 per kilowatt-hour over a period of 21 years. This translates to about €0.31 to €0.44. Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) for residentials will get the highest FiT at RM 1.75 or €0.44, PV rooftop installations will get RM1.50 or €0.38, solar power plant installations will get RM1.25 or €0.31.

The FiT will be Malaysia wide, expect in Sarawak, which has its own legislation and regulations governing electricity supply. The Sarawak government will have to decide if it wants to partake in the federal scheme.
