Meyer Burger considers solar module factory in Brazilian state of Piaui

Swiss equipment manufacturer Meyer Burger is in talks for a solar module factory in the Brazilian state of Piaui, according to the regional government. Representatives of the company discussed details of an agreement for the factory on Monday with Governor Wellington Dias. Financing for the factory would come from Germany.

Piaui says that is it working at the municipal, regional and federal levels to push this project, which would be located in the city of Paulistana.

In Brazil there is local content requirement to access to financing from development bank BNDES for PV projects. About 3 GW of solar projects have been awarded in national auctions to date, some of which are located in Piaui. This represents a large volume of solar PV which could be eligible to receive BNDES funding if supplied with local content.
