Eco Energy World (EEW), an Australian developer of utility scale solar projects, has received planning consent for the development of a 20MW Solar PV Park west of Chinchilla (Western Downs, Queensland).

EEW Chairman Svante Kumlin said: “This is fantastic news for the Chinchilla area and for EEW. The 20MW project will bring new job opportunities to the community as well as clean and renewable energy; helping Australia meet its long-term energy and climate change commitments.”

The solar farm will cover an area of approximately 73 hectares and will comprise of approximately 70,000 photovoltaic modules or ‘solar panels’. The solar panels will be installed on ground mounted frames that will slowly track the daily horizontal movement of the sun. When operational, the solar farm will generate enough clean and renewable energy for approx. 7,500 households.

The construction of the $40 million project is expected to start in 2017 and will create up to 90 construction jobs, as well as bringing fulltime employment opportunities to the area.

Mr Kumlin says, ‘We are happy to secure our second planning approval in Australia which brings us closer to our goal to develop 1GW of solar farms in Australia.’

And EEW thanks Western Downs Regional Council for their support and collaboration on the project.

The project is being developed through EEW Australia; a subsidiary of EEW Holdings. The parent company has developed projects in the UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Russia and Sweden.
