Accra, Ghana | The Renewable Energy Forum Africa (REFA) is proud to announce its 2025 edition, scheduled for 3 – 4 December 2025 at the Mövenpick Hotel, Accra, Ghana. Across two days, REFA 2025 will gather leading voices and actors of Africa’s renewable energy sector to accelerate investment, innovation, and collaboration across the continent.
REFA is honored to announce that H.E. Honourable John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, will deliver the official keynote address to inaugurate REFA on Wednesday, December 3rd. His participation underscores the Government of Ghana’s strong commitment to advancing sustainable energy and driving the country’s green transition.
Following Cape Town (2022) and Nairobi (2023), REFA 2025 is coming to West Africa and will once again serve as a central platform for institutional and private investors, project developers, energy utilities, government policymakers, regulators, corporations, and sector decision-makers to connect, exchange, and advance Africa’s energy transition. International financing and cooperation eco-system present at REFA
REFA 2025 is supported by GET.invest, a prominent European programme mobilizing investment in clean energy, co-funded by the European Union and several European nations including Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Austria.
REFA also counts SECO, the Swiss State Economic Cooperation, among its strategic partners. “Ghana stands as a beacon of economic growth and progress in West Africa. Switzerland is honored to further strengthen its partnership with Ghana as the country pursues its ambitious goals for sustainable development. Through initiatives such as the Ghana Solar Photovoltaic Net-Metering Project, Switzerland supports Ghana’s vision to generate at least 10% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Together, we are empowering communities, enhancing the resilience of the energy sector, and advancing a cleaner and more sustainable future.” says Magdalena Wüst, Deputy Head of Cooperation, Embassy of Switzerland.
Many more players from the renewable energy financing eco-system will participate in REFA 2025 to meet with project developers from Ghana and across the continent. This backing underscores the forum’s credibility and alignment with international climate and development objectives.
Ghana becoming the center of attention in the African renewable energy space
Under the strong impulse of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Ghana has embarked on a remarkable journey of reform and transformation to accelerate its energy transition. The government’s proactive approach is creating a favorable environment for private investment, innovation, and the rapid scale-up of renewable energy solutions across the country.
Key policy initiatives and projects currently underway include:
- Launch of 4,000 solar rooftops initiative, supported by $200m from public and private financing, aiming at installing 137 MW of solar capacity on residential and commercial roofs
- Electrification of 150 off-grid islands and lake communities through mini-grid deployment
- 1,000 MW rooftop solar target for commercial and industrial (C&I) installations
- Launch of a 100 MW utility-scale solar tender, opening new opportunities for investors and developers
Ghana already spearheads renewable energy development in West Africa with major milestones achieved, including:
- Africa’s largest single solar rooftop installation (16.82 MWp) in the Tema industrial area
- Africa’s largest floating solar project, located at the Bui Dam, demonstrating innovation and leadership in sustainable infrastructure
These achievements position Ghana as a regional leader in the green energy transition and make it a fitting host for REFA 2025, where local and international stakeholders will discuss how to build upon this progress for broader continental impact.
An evening full of surprise where the best players of the Africa Solar and storage Industry are honored
On the evening of the first day of REFA, the AFSIA Awards 2025 will unveil the best players of the year in the African solar and storage industry sector among various categories.
The AFSIA Awards 2025, the sector’s leading ceremony, returns to recognize the excellence, vision, creativity and achievements of companies and professionals driving growth in the African solar industry.
