Honourable John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, will deliver the official keynote address to inaugurate REFA on Wednesday, December 3rd. International financing and cooperation eco-system present at REFA
REFA 2025 is supported by GET.invest, a prominent European programme mobilizing investment in clean energy, co-funded by the European Union and several European nations including Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Austria.
REFA also counts SECO, the Swiss State Economic Cooperation, among its strategic partners. “Ghana stands as a beacon of economic growth and progress in West Africa. Ghana becoming the center of attention in the African renewable energy space
Under the strong impulse of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Ghana has embarked on a remarkable journey of reform and transformation to accelerate its energy transition. The government’s proactive approach is creating a favorable environment for private investment, innovation, and the rapid scale-up of renewable energy solutions across the country.
Key policy initiatives and projects currently underway include:
- Launch of 4,000 solar rooftops initiative, supported by $200m from public and private financing, aiming at installing 137 MW of solar capacity on residential and commercial roofs
- Electrification of 150 off-grid islands and lake communities through mini-grid deployment
- 1,000 MW rooftop solar target for commercial and industrial (C&I) installations
- Launch of a 100 MW utility-scale solar tender, opening new opportunities for investors and developers
Ghana already spearheads renewable energy development in West Africa with major milestones achieved, including:
- Africa’s largest single solar rooftop installation (16.82 MWp) in the Tema industrial area
- Africa’s largest floating solar project, located at the Bui Dam, demonstrating innovation and leadership in sustainable infrastructure
