Hanwha Q CELLS and Erdgas Südwest transform former waste dump into a 4.4 MW solar power plant

Since beginning of March, a 4.4 MW solar power plant in the Malsch municipality of Baden-Wuerttemberg state will supply around 4,500 MWh clean energy to the power grid every year. Erdgas Südwest GmbH, an ecologically friendly full-service energy supplier, has constructed the plant on the roughly 55,000 m² area of the former “Stützel” waste dump, thereby transforming the fallow land into a plant for environmentally friendly power generation. Hanwha Q CELLS GmbH, German subsidiary of the world's largest solar cell manufacturer Hanwha Q CELLS Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: HQCL) has provided around 16,000 high-performance solar modules with Q.ANTUM technology for that. In the future, they will produce sufficient energy to cover the power requirement of roughly 1,200 average 4-person households with clean solar energy. Thus, around 2,600 tonnes CO2 will be saved as compared to conventional energy generation methods.

Economy, ecology and regional responsibility in harmony

“The solar power plant in Malsch is a successful example of how former waste dumps can be put to ecologically sensible uses”, said Oliver Auras, Head of Project Development at Erdgas Südwest GmbH. “In order that such large-scale power plants are also attractive in terms of economic sustainability, one needs a module partner with long-standing experience whose products convince with top-notch performance and quality and which offers top-level logistics and service. In Hanwha Q CELLS GmbH, we have found that partner.” Erdgas Südwest GmbH is working on a series of other projects to push forward the energy turnaround and to combine ecological responsibility with economic success.

“We thank Erdgas Südwest GmbH for placing their trust in us. Our modules will pay off with reliably high yields”, said Christian Hauser, Key Account Manager at Hanwha Q CELLS GmbH. “We look forward to more joint projects in the future.”
