International PV companies in Chile share their business challenges

Last week PV Insider asked the international PV community about the biggest challenges in building a PV business in Chile.

These have been compiled in a short review published this week that includes the opinion of the Inter-American Development Bank, German PV developer Kraftwerk and China Sunergy.

The main challenges identified are the uncertainty in spot market prices as well as the lack of a PV focused policy support.

In the words of Patrick Doyle, Senior Climate and Energy Officer at the Inter-American Bank, "There may be a need for stronger policy support for PV to reach its full potential."

From the point of view of a PV developer company, Karsten Schulte, CEO of Kraftwerk, states: "The challenge lies in convincing the Chileans that even small to medium-sized PV systems present an attractive investment."
