A consortium was created by Isofoton S.A. and Nicaraguan companies, Tecnosol and NGO Pana-Pana to develop this project, which is located in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region of Nicaragua. Specifically, Isofoton is responsible for supplying the technical management equipment for the facilities.

Tecnosol, which is Isofoton’s official distributor in Nicaragua, is responsible for installing the equipment and the solar systems, under the supervision of Isofoton. It is also in charge of supplying all the other components on the system, such as light bulbs, cabling, etc.

The association Pana-Pana is responsible for identifying the potential system users and the relationship with them, including rates collection.

The project provides electricity to 31 communities located along the Coco River, at the border between Nicaragua and Honduras, one of the poorest parts of the country, which is where the Miskita tribe lives. The project is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank and the National Commission on Energy for USD 1,040,000, of which the IDB has contributed 85 percent to the NCE through subsidies and the remaining 15 percent will be obtained through a rate that will be charged to the end users.

WASPAN is one of the many projects that Isofoton has undertaken in the field of rural electrification. Since it was founded 30 years ago, one of its objectives for this company from Málaga was to take photovoltaic energy to underprivileged parts of the world in which energy cannot be obtained through other sources.

The company has accumulated a great deal of experience over the years in the field of rural electrification, and it is possibly one of the companies in this field to have developed the most projects to date. Its projects presently supply energy to families in Africa, Asia, America and Oceania.
