A Commercial Breakthrough for Vertical Solar

Founded in 2021, Over Easy Solar set out to reinvent rooftop solar installations for buildings with flat roofs, green roofs, or structural limitations. In May 2025, the Oslo-based company reached a major milestone, having delivered more than 1382 kilowatts of its Vertical Photovoltaic (VPV) Units to building projects across Europe and North America.

The company’s first full-scale commercial installation was completed in 2023 as an extension of a pilot project with the City of Oslo. Since then, Over Easy Solar has seen rapid adoption of its product, which is now installed on over 40 buildings in 13 countries.

Key markets include Scandinavia, Germany, Switzerland, and the Benelux region, with the first projects in North America launching in 2025.

Global Partnerships and Record-Breaking Projects

Over Easy Solar’s go-to-market strategy has been anchored in international partnerships. In 2024, the company signed a distribution agreement with Sempergreen, a Dutch leader in green roof systems. Through Sempergreen, Over Easy Solar’s VPV Units are now available as an integrated offering for green roofs across Europe.

A standout installation was completed at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, setting a world record for vertical rooftop solar. In summer 2025, another record will be broken with a large-scale project in Tromsø, Norway.

Cumulatively, the company's systems now cover more than 15,000 square meters of roof space, equivalent to 27,600 vertical solar panels installed.

Recognized Innovation, Tailored Technology

The VPV Unit by Over Easy Solar is designed for buildings where traditional rooftop PV is not feasible due to load-bearing limits or design constraints. By mounting bifacial solar panels vertically, the system enables optimal energy yield on flat roofs—even in snow- or wind-prone regions.

The product has gained wide recognition, winning SolarPower Europe’s Startup Award in 2022 and being named a top innovation at Solar Solutions Amsterdam and Düsseldorf in 2024.

In May 2025, Over Easy Solar formalized a partnership with Huasun, a leading Chinese PV manufacturer specializing in high-efficiency panels well-suited for vertical applications. With the HJT cells of Huasun, Over Easy Solar has managed to achieve solar panels with 96% bifaciality, pushing the limit on efficiency for vertical photovoltaics.

“Product development in solar typically takes 5–10 years to reach megawatt-scale volumes. We've achieved that in just four,” says Trygve Mongstad, CEO and co-founder. “We’re especially proud to see strong sales and international partnerships emerge from a team with a mostly technical background.”
