AT&T has announced it is to to further its efforts in smart grid for utility companies with a new agreement with Petra Solar, a clean tech pioneer that combines solar generation and smart grid technology in a single system. AT&T will offer Petra Solar’s innovative technology, which allows utility companies to simultaneously address Renewable Portfolio Standard requirements and invest in a smart grid technology.

BioSolar, Inc. has reported that rigorous testing by an independent authority reveals its BioBacksheet can improve the power output of solar panels by dissipating heat faster.

U.S.-based solar group discount company, One Block Off the Grid (1BOG), has launched what it says is Philadelphia’s first solar group purchase program. Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. has received a contract for engineering and implementing production tooling for the Fisker Karma solar photovoltaic (PV) roof module. Under the contract, Quantum and its German solar affiliate Asola Advanced and Automotive Solar Systems GmbH will design and procure production tooling to enable production of solar roof modules beginning in the fourth quarter of this year.

Next year’s European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC) will be held in Hamburg, Germany. The event will be hosted by the CCH – Congress Centre and International Fair Hamburg: the conference will run from 5 – 9 September 2011, whilst the exhibition is set to be held from 5 – 8 September 2011.
