Photovoltaik-Institut Berlin (PI Berlin) and British certification body the BBA are unveiling a new inspection process for solar power plants at the Solar Energy UK exhibition. The PQ Rating provides a rapid overview of the strengths and weaknesses of PV power plants, supporting stakeholders – including investors – on the secondary PV market to make acquisition decisions, and providing sellers with plant inspection reports to improve their sales prospects. The PQ Rating facilitates the decision-making process by evaluating projects on a scale of one to ten and by providing both a detailed report and a chart-based summary.

MMA Energy Capital and Conergy Close $55 Million Solar Finance Facility

MMA Capital Management, LLC (NASDAQ: MMAC) (“MMA Capital Management” or the “Company”), a Delaware limited liability company, today announced that its subsidiary, MMA Energy Capital, LLC (“MMA Energy Capital”), through its joint venture with Fundamental Advisors, LP (“Fundamental”), a leading alternative asset manager, closed a $55 million financing facility with Conergy to be used for the construction of its 36 MW North Carolina solar portfolio.
This financing supports Conergy in constructing the first set of assets it will hold under its new strategy to become a solar independent power producer (IPP), as announced last week. Conergy will build, own and operate this portfolio of seven projects and sell the power to Duke Energy Carolinas under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
“We are extremely pleased to complete this transaction with Conergy, one of the pioneers in the solar energy space, and this project will provide the residents of North Carolina with clean, reliable electric power for many years,” Bob Hopper, Managing Director of MMA Energy Capital stated.
“As we grow our asset ownership, Conergy is thrilled to build out our North Carolina project portfolio with MMA Energy Capital’s facility. This financing further validates our bankability and access to capital for projects,” said Yann Brandt, Conergy’s Regional Head of The Americas.
Conergy began construction of the seven solar projects in September. The company plans to meet requirements to receive the North Carolina state solar tax credit this quarter and the projects will be placed in service in early 2016.

Blymyer Engineers Chosen As Engineering Firm Of Record For Springbok 2 Solar Farm

Blymyer Engineers, the nation’s leading design firm for utility scale solar projects, announced today the company has been chosen by Swinterton Builders as the engineering firm of record on the Springbok 2 Solar Farm in California. The full three phase project involves developing a 350 MW AC PV solar generating facility covering approximately 2000 acres of formerly underdeveloped grazing and ag lands over multiple project sites in an unincorporated portion of eastern Kern county.
Blymyer Engineers has already provided engineering for the 105 MW Springbok 1 project. The Springbok 2 solar farm is a 150 MW AC photovoltaic system utilizing ATI single axis trackers, SMA Sunnycentral 2200 inverters, and Trina TSM 315 watt PD 14 modules. Power will be transmitted to the grid via one or more generation tie lines connecting to the LADWP Beacon Substation. As reported in the initial project EIR, when fully operational the three part solar facility will operate year round and provide electricity to meet the needs of approximately 170,000 households.
Blymyer Engineer’s scope of work includes preparing the PV syst report, site plans and general arrangement drawings for the system, and complete electrical design including the electrical site plan, single line diagrams, trench layout, detailed design, grounding design, electrical equipment, wire and conduit sizing, plus the interface for the data acquisition system. Additionally Blymyer Engineers is working on structural designs including inverter foundations and single axis tracker foundations.
