Stable yields and rates of return can only be achieved throughout the lifetime of a plant if the photovoltaic system is of a high quality. In light of the growing pressure on prices in the PV industry, quality standards are constantly being put to the test. In which areas of the photovoltaics industry must quality be improved and where do misguided quality requirements among manufacturers and customers cost unnecessary money? These and many more questions will be answered at the Solarpraxis conference Quality for Photovoltaics, which is taking place for the third time in Berlin on September 12, 2013.
Topics include the currently much debated potential induced degradation (PID), which can lead to module output losses of more than 30 percent. Dr. Juliane Berghold from the Photovoltaik-Institut will present field measurements and the influence of rectifying PID faults on energy yields, as well as lead a debate on a possible industry standard for PID testing.
Jörg Althaus from TÜV Rheinland and Jan Willem Vos from Solar Insurance & Finance will deal with the provocative question of how significant certificates used in the photovoltaics industry are in practice. Meanwhile, Dr. Heiko Lübke from Enerparc will report on the use of quality assurance checks during operation for assessing entire PV systems, and Ingo Ernst from Schneider Electric will initiate a discussion on whether global standards for inverters and grid connections provide additional safety. The strategies used by international distributors to perform quality assurance will be shared by Stephanie Poetter from Donauer Solartechnik and Jörgen Klammer from BEC-Engineering. Finally, a separate item on the program will be dedicated to speakers presenting arguments for and against ways of approaching quality in the photovoltaics industry.
Around 100 people are expected to attend, including module manufacturers, suppliers, system integrators, distributors, project developers and planners, as well as representatives from trade companies, banks, the insurance sector, law firms, consultancies and test laboratories.
