Speakers

Jenny Chase, Manager, Solar Insight Service at Bloomberg New Energy Finance

Jenny Chase is the manager of Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s global Solar Insight Service. She joined BNEF mid-2005 and launched the Solar Insight Service in early 2006, and now runs the team from Bloomberg’s Zurich office. Jenny has conducted or overseen all the research of the Solar Insight Service over its five-year lifespan. This has included PV experience curve analysis, which enabled the team to make a definite prediction of an upcoming sudden 35-40% fall in crystalline silicon module prices, a year before it happened and while most analysts were expecting slow 5-10% per year price slides. The timing of the price decline in early 2009 was predicted by BNEF’s solar team with some accuracy in 2007, based on global supply and demand analysis.

Lior Handelsman, VP Marketing and Product Strategy, Founder, SolarEdge

Lior Handelsman founded SolarEdge in 2006 and currently serves as our Vice President of Marketing and Product Strategy in which he is responsible for defining and steering SolarEdge’s strategic global marketing activities, media outreach, product roadmap and vision, corporate product strategy, as well global product management, and corporate business development. Prior to founding SolarEdge, Mr. Handelsman spent 11 years leading power electronics research and development teams and directing large-scale, multidisciplinary research and development projects. Mr. Handelsman holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (cum laude) and an MBA from the Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology.

Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO, SolarPower Europe

The European solar energy association SolarPower Europe has appointed Walburga Hemetsberger as its new CEO. According to the association, she has amassed an impressive knowledge of European energy policy, as well as an influential network, via her professional experience. Over the past 10 years, Hemetsberger has been both head of the EU Representation Office of Austrian energy company Verbund AG, and a board member of Hydrogen Europe in charge of Energy Transition Solutions. Previously, she was an advisor for financial and capital markets regulation for the German, and the European, Association of Public Banks (VÖB/EAPB), and a competition lawyer for law firm Haarmann Hemmelrath.

Benedikt Ortmann, Managing Director, BayWa r.e. Solar Projects GmbH

Benedikt Ortmann PhD dedicated the last 14 years of his career to photovoltaic projects all over the world. Before joining the team at BayWa r.e. he built the international project business for SOLON SE, Berlin, from scratch and turned it into a successful and highly profitable business division. His beginnings in the renewable business go back to 2003, when he became CFO at S.A.G. Solarstrom AG, Freiburg.

Alison is also an active champion of women in the solar industry, having set up an informal network in 2017, called Solar Wonders, which encourages women to network and do business directly with each other.

Simon Meijer, CEO, Founder, COOLBACK Company

Simon Meijer founded COOLBACK Company in 2011. At the start active in Low Concentration PV but later shifted completely toward Thermal Management, development, production and sales of Heat Loss reducing module application COOLBACK. Agenda

Subsidy-free PV: Transforming the energy landscape

As utility scale subsidy-free arrays in Europe’s south gain momentum, and the right to self-consume becomes secured across the EU, the role of the prosumer, intelligent battery storage, P2P energy, and distributed PV models such as VPPs are growing in importance.

The Future PV Roundtable will address a range of issues across this dynamic and fast-emerging sector including an examination of the key benchmarks required for subsidy-free utility scale arrays – and the technologies that will enable their rollout. Looking to the rooftop segment, how solar energy from distributed generation and storage systems can be monetized on energy markets is a growing concern, and optimizing self consumption becomes king: energy management, optimization and monitoring, vehicle-to-grid, frequency response and more…

Programme Highlights

Economic benchmarks for subsidy-free success

Establishing the key benchmarks through which a subsidy-free PV array can be achieved: how component cost, PPA settings, and irradiation intersect. Enabling technologies, and next generation componentry powering solar without subsidy.

Panel Discussion: What technologies are available to manufacturers to support the subsidy-free business model?

Discussing cutting edge technologies, as well as strategies that can be employed by manufacturers to position themselves as key component and player to support the success the subsidy-free model

Panel Discussion: Maximizing consumption onsite, and trading on the large and small scale

Plugging into the technologies allowing for the optimal consumption of rooftop power within the home or small business. An exploration of the ways in which distributed generation and energy storage assets can participate in energy markets.
