GCL-SI launches 600 MW PERC production in Vietnam

China’s GCL System Integration Technology (GCL-SI) and Vina Solar have started manufacturing PV cells in Vietnam, with annual output estimated at 600 MW. Roughly 330 MW of their total output capacity has been reserved for passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) solar cells.

Meyer Burger receives new equipment order worth CHF 22 million

Swiss PV equipment supplier Meyer Burger has received a further order for its MAiA PERC production platform SiNA cell coating system from an existing customer based in Asia. The combined contract for both technologies amounts to CHF 22 million ($23.2 million).

LONGi Solar first to place order for new Meyer Burger tool

Swiss equipment supplier Meyer Burger today announced the launch of its new MAiA EVO system, and the receipt of the first order for the system from PERC manufacturer LONGi Solar Technology. The tool is set to be delivered in the second half of 2017.

Solartech to ramp up PERC cell production

Solartech Energy has revealed plans to expand output of passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) solar cells by installing two new production lines from August, from four at present.

Heraeus develops new low activity tabbing paste for PERC applications

New white paper by the German-headquartered silver paste specialists examines effect of new generation of tabbing pastes on mono- and multi-PERC solar cell wafers, leading to higher efficiencies.

GCL-SI achieves 20.1% efficiency for its PERC solar cells in mass production

The Chinese PV manufacturer has achieved a new efficiency breakthrough for its PERC solar cells, with the help of nanostructured black silicon. GCL-SI plans to reach an efficiency of up to 21.0% by the end of this year.

Meyer Burger awarded two contracts totalling $82.7 million

The swiss company has received two orders for the delivery and installation of its MB PERC cell technology. In order to meet the demand Meyer Burger will temporarily increase its production.

Innolas receives order for laser machine platform

German equipment supplier Innolas announced that it has received a further order for its ILS-TTnx platform, from an unnamed Asian customer. The tool is suitable for a range of applications in cell technology, but is particularly seen as a cost-effective method for laser contact opening in PERC cells.

Video: industrial LID ‘fix’ for multi PERC drawing closer

PERC application in monocrystalline cells has proven its capability to produce high efficiency cells. Further cost reductions could be achieved with multi PERC, but problems with Light Induced Degradation (LID) has stood in the way of its industry adoption. However, researchers and equipment suppliers are drawing in on an industrial solution.
