ABB has fitted 1,040 of its photovoltaic panels to the roof of its ABB Bailey factory in Izunokuni city, Shizuoka, as a demonstration of its solar applications and to supply half of the factory's peak electricity demands from solar.

The installation also includes an inverter, junction boxes, a transformer and a ring main unit, all manufactured by ABB.

The factory also has a demonstration single-axis ABB tracker unit and the system will be monitored by the automation company's Symphony Plus monitoring system – both firsts for Japan.
