Norwegian solar developer Scatec Solar now has 43 MW of solar PV capacity in operation in the Kingdom of Jordan following the commissioning this week of a 22 MW PV plant.
Developed in partnership with local ECP European Jordanian Renewable Energy (EJRE), the plant is situated approximately 225 km south of Jordans capital, Amman, and covers 51 hectares.
Annual electricity production is estimated to exceed 52,000 MWh, which is enough to meet the clean energy needs of 10,000 local households.
Ownership is split 50.1% to 49.9% between Scatec Solar and EJRE, and a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) is in place with state utility NEPCO.
Prior to the plants completion, Scatec Solar already operated 21 MW of PV in the country, which included a 10 MW plant built in 2014 in Jordans southern part.
