Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has completed and put online the 64 MW La Jacinta PV plant in Uruguay. This is the largest solar PV project completed in Uruguay to date. The plant is located in the Salto Department, in the interior of the nation.
FRV says that it initially connected the project to the grid in July 2015. After this, in September, the plant received formal qualification by UTE.
The launch of the La Jacinta is a big milestone and source of pride for us, as it is the first solar park of this size which has begun operation in Uruguay, stated FRV CEO Rafael Benjumea.
A power purchase agreement for the project has been signed with Uruguayan national utility UTE. This project is part of a solar program launched in 2013 by the Uruguayan government under which 200 MW of solar PV will be built.
UTE recently announced that in 2015 58 MW of solar PV plants were commissioned in the nation. For this year, the company predicts that another 167 MW of PV plants will be put online.
