Swedish homefurnishing giant Ikea has announced that it has begun selling solar modules online in Italy.
The company has started to offer its “Solstrale” PV panels on its Italian website at the beginning of February, while also providing its customers with detailed information about the offer at its stores in Milan, Brescia, Rimini, Villesse, Padova and Catania.
“Through a tailor-made solution, created in collaboration with our partner WÖLMANN, you can immediately start energizing all your activities at home in a sustainable way,” the company says on its website.
The same offer was launched by Ikea for the German market in January. In five test stores in the country, it set up information points at entrances and exits as well as near the restaurant.
Ikea also sells residential PV systems in Belgium, the U.K., Poland, the Netherlands and Switzerland. In a recent interview with Signe Antvorskov Krag, Global Development Leader IKEA Home Solar Business, pv magazine editor Becky Beetz discussed the company’s business models for the PV business.

I can not understand that Ikea Will Not sell in Portugal or in Spain residential solar systems, the two countrys with most Sun & most expensive electricity ? ? ?
I’m sure if the founder of Ikea was still alive He would have sorted out this in no time.
In economic theory, it makes no sense for a furniture chain to offer solar. IKEA neither design not make the modules, nor install them. In reality, the brand can offer reassurance, both intangible and in warranties, and lower the fear of the unknown. Not to mention reasonably cheap consumer finance: a solar installation now costs no more than a new kitchen.
