Trina to ship 16 MW of its bifacial panels for French projects

Chinese solar module maker Trina Solar has supplied 16 MW of its 350-365 W, bifacial, double glass monocrystalline PERC panels to EDF Renewables, the renewable energy arm of French utility EDF.

Trina said the bifacial panels will be used in two large-scale PV project in France’s southern Occitanie region – a 5 MW solar park planned for the municipality of Aramon, in the Gard department near Avignon, and an 11 MW PV facility in Saint Pargoire, in the Hérault department.

The projects were selected by French energy regulator the CRE in its CRE4.1 and CRE4.2 tenders. Delivery of the modules will be finalized by the end of the quarter, Trina added.

Carbon compliant

“Trina Solar will supply approximately 45,000 dual-glass, bifacial Duomax Twin panels with a low CO² balance and a power output of 350-365 W,” Trina stated. The carbon dioxide reference relates to the fact the modules comply with a French policy which applies a 15% evaluation premium to projects featuring PV modules with low carbon footprints in tenders for large-scale solar.

“The Duomax Twin module features monocrystalline PERC cells and increases overall power through front and rear power generation, with an additional energy gain of up to 25%, depending on albedo and mounting,” Trina said, adding the 1,500 V system voltage allows for longer strings, further reducing balance of system costs.

Trina said the deal is its first supply agreement for bifacial modules in France.

The completion of Europe’s first large-scale bifacial solar plant was announced in mid-January by Chinese manufacturer Jolywood.
