Interview: Iran intends to build new PV and wind power plants totaling 5 GW in the coming years. The first PPAs have already been signed. Among them, Germany’s Geon secured a FIT contract for a 120 MW solar park. The company’s managing director, Sharam Roghani explains why this is only half the battle and why financing projects in Iran remains difficult. He has not found a lender yet, and time is running out.

Despite raised forecasts, last year’s revenue and EBIDTA were lower than those registred in 2016. Shipments grew year-on-year, from 8.2 GW to 8.5 GW.

With its latest acquisition, Germany-based Enovos now manages large-scale PV systems amounting to around 600 MW in Germany. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) will make its first investments in solar energy, in partnership with German PV plant operator, Capital Stage. The money will go towards the development of 140 MW of solar, to be built by Irish developer, Power Capital.

According to preliminary financial figures released today, Swiss equipment provider Meyer Burger has registered a slight increase in sales for the full year 2017, improving on its 2016 net result. Nevertheless, the company is still reckoning with a significant loss for the year.

While the German EPC contractor has installed a 4.2 MW rooftop solar PV plant, the manufacturer has agreed to supply 60 MW of modules to the Turkish market.

Negotiators of the three German parties have agreed on a common preliminary paper. They also agreed on additional tenders for large-scale solar and wind power projects, with a volume of 4 GW in the years 2019 and 2020.

According to provisional figures released by Swissolar, solar demand remained stable in the country last year. Looking ahead, the association expects another 300 MW to be deployed this year.
