JinkoSolar, a Tier-1 Chinese solar company, has signed three power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (Comision Federal de Electricidad) for 188 MW of solar PV capacity to be commissioned by mid-2018.

The three solar projects were awarded to JinkoSolar in April under Mexico’s inaugural long-term electricity auction, which saw 1.7 GWac of solar projects awarded at a medial PV price of $45/MWh.

In total, 11 companies secured contracts for a total of 18 clean energy projects awarded in the first tender auction. A second auction is planned for September.

JinkoSolar has confirmed that the PPAs are for a 15-year period each, with related Clean Energy Certificates stretching to 20 years. Two of the solar projects being developed by JinkoSolar are located in Yucatan, with Jalisco the location of the other project.

"Mexico is an attractive market for solar power and is showing great potential, which we intend to take advantage of," said JinkoSolar’s chairman Xiande Li. "We are proud to have earned the trust of Mexico’s CENACE [National Center of Energy Control] and SENER [Mexican Ministry of Energy], and look forward to providing clean energy to Mexican customers."
