Phoenix Solar and Silicon Ranch Corporation have joined forces to build a 38.6 MW solar plant in the U.S. state of Georgia. Georgia Power will buy the generated electricity under a 20-year PPA deal.
Conergy files for insolvency
German solutions provider Conergy filed for insolvency on Friday at the Hamburg District Court. Subsidiaries Mountain Systems and Conergy SolarModule also opened insolvency proceedings. Conergy’s management board expects German employees will recevie state-funded “insolvency wages” for the next three months.

Number crunch in German solar sector

An enquiry made by the Die Linke political party revealed there are only around 87,000 jobs in the PV sector and sales figures have also shrunk drastically. The ongoing EEG discussions are, however, not responsible for the turmoil, according to the federal government.
Analysts not surprised by Conergy insolvency
Financial experts shocked not by the Conergy insolvency but by how long it took the Hamburg company to file insolvency proceedings. The Hamburg state prosecutor had filed charges against former Conergy executives two years ago.

Panasonic set to close solar cell factory in Hungary
