US: 13.2% annual solar jobs growth

Figures released today by the Solar Foundation show that while job growth remains slow in much of the U.S. economy, the solar industry continues to shine – with 13.2% annual growth in the last year. The figures were measured in a census measuring employment growth in solar between September 2011 and September 2012.

Siemens will significantly scale PV inverter business back

Germany: PV FITs to fall 2.5% following nearly 1 GW of new installs

Newly installed photovoltaics in Germany amounted to nearly one GW in September, and 1.85 GW between July and September. Consequently, it is now clear that the feed-in tariffs (FITs) will be reduced by 2.5% a month for the next three months.

Construction to begin on 1 GW Serbian PV project

A one GW, €1.75 billion photovoltaic project has received the green light in Serbia, after the government and project developer, Securum Equity Partners & Associates signed a binding framework agreement on October 25. Construction is scheduled to begin next April.

Abound Solar: 3-pronged criminal investigation launched

Already financially reeling following bankruptcy, Colorado-based Abound Solar has now fallen afoul of the law. In a statement released on October 25, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office in Colorado, acknowledged that its Investigations Unit is conducting a probe into “possible securities fraud, consumer fraud and financial misrepresentation.”

PV equipment upgrades and differentiation key to manufacturers’ survival

A new report has identified a number of opportunities for photovoltaic equipment manufacturers to turn a profit. The key is product differentiation, according to the author, who states that photovoltaic manufacturers with idle capacities cannot afford to not upgrade their production equipment. Meanwhile, Germany’s grip on the market is said to be slipping.
