California-based SunPower Corporation has revealed details of a recent supply agreement with Japans Ecomax Japan Inc. that will see the solar technology provider supply solar panels totaling 20 MW to the Japanese company.
Ecomax will install the panels SunPowers high efficiency E20/327 panels at several locations in the central and northern areas of Japan, acting as EPC for each project, the largest of which will be a 13 MW solar power plant in Gunma.
This plant will be owned by Farmdo, a company that assists Japans farmers and supports the countrys agriculture sector.
Ecomax will use the remaining 7 MW of solar panels to build and operate a series of small solar installations, with plans to sell the clean energy generated to local utilities.
The company has also signed a panel purchase agreement with SunPower, pledging to purchase more of its E20/327 solar panels for all of its future installations.
"SunPower Corporation is pleased to partner with Ecomax, extending our presence in Japans mega solar power plant and commercial rooftop generation markets," said SunPower president for regions, Howard Wenger. "Our high efficiency solar panels and systems are a strong fit for Japan given the countrys buildable land constraints and high grid interconnection costs."
