In a meeting held in Berlin the head of Chile’s National Commission for Energy (CNE) presented the upcoming technology neutral power auction, which will be held in December. Solar is expected to have a significant share thanks to very favorable conditions.
Portugal’s renewable energy association Apren said that Spain has paved the way for further development of renewables on the Iberian Peninsula with its recent 3 GW auction, and that a similar tender is needed to revive the country’s solar and wind power sector.
In the auction, which will be open to wind and PV power projects, all the projects not chosen in the 3 GW auction held two weeks ago will likely have another chance to compete.
The Tunisian government hopes to allocate 210 MW of wind and solar capacity through the tender. Bids for PV projects must be submitted by Nov. 15, 2017.
In the latest tender for PV projects up to 12 MW held in March, the Israeli government allocated around 235 MW of solar capacity. Overall, the Middle Eastern country has reached cumulative PV capacity of over 900 MW.
Starting 2018, 400 MW of capacity will be allocated every year in joint auctions for wind and solar projects. German association BSW-Solar asks for a level playing field, and recommends other instruments to promote Germany’s Energy Transition.
Spanish solar association UNEF claims PV was discriminated against in the auction and announced it will appeal to the European Commission.
After conducting a review of the results of Germany’s six auctions for large-scale PV, which have led to a very good price/performance ratio for solar power, the German solar association said there is no more reason to set growth limits for the development of PV.
Around 96% of the PV projects up to 10 MW selected in Germany’s first auction for large-scale solar has now been completed, according to the country’s grid regulator Bundesnetzagentur.
In the country’s new energy strategy, the Italian government is planning to phase-out coal power plants starting 2025, and to support utility-scale PV projects through long-term PPAs.
