The Chilean National Energy Commission (CNE) has issued bidding rules for electricity supplies for regulated customers. It will auction off a total of 5,400 GWh, divided into two blocks of 1,800 GWh and 3,600 GWh each.
According to the bidding terms published by the National Energy Commission, project proposals may be submitted by June 11 and the results will be announced on June 19. Successful bidders will secure a 15-year power supply deal and some 5.6 TWh of electricity is expected to be generated annually as a result of the new capacity.
The Chilean National Energy Commission will become the country’s first public entity to adopt such technology, which it will begin to use in March.
Although official statistics report that grid-connected PV capacity reached 1.82 GW as of the end of December 2017, the completion of two large-scale projects totaling 215 MW in early January has raised Chile’s total installed power to around 2.04 GW.
Four PV projects were awarded in the second auction for renewable energy projects in the Central American nation.
