African solar looks beyond donor nations for investment
Multilateral organizations the World Bank and African Development Bank (AfDB) have played a key role in the development of African solar and want to attract more private capital to a continent with at least 40% of the world’s solar irradiation but currently only 1% of its PV generation capacity.
Developers in the dark over reported 25% hike in Benban investment costs
The association that represents developers operating at the 1,465 MW solar project in Egypt – due for completion in June – say they have been told nothing about a rumored rise in investment costs caused by more expensive construction materials.
64 MW project connected at Benban
Alcazar Energy has announced the start of commercial operation for a project at Benban, in Egypt. Alcazar says it is the first of more than 30 planned projects in the second round of the mammoth solar park to achieve grid connection, and one of four similar sized projects the company is working on at the site.
$102.6 million guaranteed for 250 MW Egyptian PV project
World Bank Group member, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), has pledged to provide financial support for six solar power plants in Egypt, the accumulative capacity of which stands at 250 MW.
