The contracts were scrapped through an auction launched in April to cancel projects selected in reserve energy auctions held between 2014 and 2015.
The DOE’s latest numbers show renewables rising to 20.05% of U.S. electricity generation during the first half of the year, just behind nuclear’s 20.07%. Solar provided 2% of electricity, and wind 7%.
The $625 million program, which is being financed by the World Bank, will provide private developers with financing for viable grid-connected rooftop PV projects.
Around 3,909 MW of solar was assigned in yesterday’s auction. This is 400 MW more than what Spanish solar association UNEF had estimated in its provisional forecast.
The project is the first phase of the 2.8 MW Pirallahi PV power plant and part of the Government’s 2014-2020 energy strategy which aims to deploy over 600 MW of solar by 2020.
The eastern European country saw the addition of only a few hundreds kilowatts of PV over the past few years, and for 2017 just around 200 kW of new PV systems are expected to come online.
The Chilean authorities will begin accepting project proposals for the 2017 power auction starting from October 11.
The decree implementing the auction was published in the country’s official journal on Saturday. Solar seems to have more options compared to the previous 3 GW auction, in which only 1.5 MW of PV was contracted.
The auction was open to solar, wind and hydropower. Projects selected in the tender must be commissioned between 2018 and 2022.
The Committee for the Environment of the Brazilian Senate has approved a bill to modify the legislation of the electric system and grant access to the country’s energy auctions to large-scale hybrid renewable energy projects.
