China: 200 MW PV plant underway
01. December 2011 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartChinese state controlled electric company, Guodian is working on a 200 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic plant in China’s Qinghai province. According to sources it should be complete by 2015.
The project, expected to be one of the world’s biggest when finished, will be executed over a number of phases. In a statement released by Santerno S.p.A., inverter supplier to the project, 20 MW have already been installed.
A spokesperson told pv magazine that this is likely to increase to 50 MW by year end. In 2012, meanwhile, another 50 MW is expected to be added, with the remaining 100 MW to be built by 2015.
Overall, Santerno has supplied 20 Sunway inverters to the project, which is located 2,850 meters above sea level. "The area is desolate and wild and is subject to strong solar radiation throughout the year. Therefore, the plant must be able to operate under such adverse weather conditions and requires robust inverters capable of withstanding the most extreme working conditions," wrote the company in a statement released.
No more information was available on other equipment suppliers, how much will be invested in the project, or if any new jobs have been created.
