In a statement released, the DETEC said that a new 10 percent cut will be added to the annual eight percent reduction, which came into effect on January 1, 2012, on March 1. This means that tariffs will sink by 18 percent, overall.
The reason cited for the change is, among other factors, the decreased costs of photovoltaic modules and, thus, investment costs. DETEC added that the rates will again be reviewed mid-year, due to the "large uncertainties concerning the price development of modules".
