Suncore starts CPV production in China

Suncore, a joint venture between Emcore Corporation and San'an Optoelectronics, began construction on the automated manufacturing facility last February. While current capacity is 200 megawatts (MW), three construction phases have been planned in total.

The modules coming off the production line now are being used towards Suncore’s 50 MW purchase order for a CPV installation in China’s Golmud. When completed, it is expected to be one of the biggest projects of its kind.

"Given the current macroeconomic environment for photovoltaics, we believe China is emerging as the most promising market for CPV solar power in the world," commented Christopher Larocca, Emcore COO.

He added, "Suncore's initial 50 MW purchase order is a testament to the demand for CPV in China, and we firmly believe that Suncore's cost model will allow Suncore to aggressively compete in the photovoltaic market there and around the world."
